Released in 1985, Weird Science is Hughes at his very best. Damn, he had an amazing run (see below). Like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Sixteen Candles, this one has a similar formula; suburban kids, popular and not so popular, teenage love, and trying to fit in. Not only is the story great, the cast is incredible, featuring Anthony Michael Hall & Ilan Mitchell-Smith with support from Robert Downey Jr., Bill Paxton, Kelly LeBrock, and the creepy Michael Berryman.
In today's scene, Wyatt and Gary return home after a night of drinking at a Blues Club with the woman of their dreams. They are confronted by Chet (Bill Paxton), Wyatt's asshole older brother. In my opinion, although Paxton is not the lead, he steals the movie. He is hilariously obnoxious throughout, but not so much that you find him to be a douche bag. He's just a pure asshole and this scene gives you a little peek. I hope you enjoy the scene and your Friday. If you haven't seen the entire movie, grab it the next time you're wondering what to do on a rainy Saturday or Sunday. You won't be disappointed. And by the way, make sure to see the original before they reboot it.
From the mind of John Hughes:
1990 Home Alone
1983
Vacation
I love Weird Science! AMH is so damn funny I can't handle it. I think my favorite little part of the flick is when Gary & Wyatt have that little back and forth in the shower while the girls are in the bathroom. Get's me every time.
ReplyDeleteAgree x 2. Love Weird Science and AMH is a funny dude. He killed in the 80's. It was so difficult picking a favorite scene because there are so many. Thanks for the read.
