Music Video Monday: The Killers - Runaways

Welcome back old friends. It's been awhile since we last heard you ask us, "Are we human or are we dancer?" Besides being a strange question, (Hunter S. Thompson inspired), it was a controversial one, from an album, Day & Age, that strayed even further away from Hot Fuss than Sam's Town and Sawdust. It made me wonder out loud whether you would ever return to the sound that made me fall in love with you way back in 2004. Then in 2010, you said you were taking a hiatus, sometimes a nice way of saying, we are breaking up. While you were away, three of you released semi-successful solo albums and after a year and a half of rumors and anxious anticipation, you come back strong with today's Music Video Monday, "Runaways". I'd like to say thanks for caring about my musical feelings and not running away forever.

It's a return to your best efforts like "When You Were Young" or "Smile Like You Mean It" with an obvious nod to 80's pop rock. It's dramatic, synth laced and filled with the bravado that Brandon (Flowers) has perfected so well over the years, but listeners don't be fooled by the theatrics, he still tells a great love story. "Runaways" is one of young love. It's the naive thought that anything is possible as long we have each other. It's the idea that we could just runaway from it all and everything would be perfect, but we soon find out that love isn't always enough. Like most relationships, "Runaways" has it's ups and downs, but this story ends well for these young lovers as Flowers proclaims:

"I knew it when I met you, I'm not gonna let you, runaway.
I knew it when I held you, I wasn't lettin go, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh!"

If you haven't yet, I hope all of you find that one person you will never let runaway, but until then enjoy today's video and remember to live your soundtrack out loud.

  5. Are we human or are we dancer, love that track. Losing Touch is another one I dug from previous Killers album.

Didn't like the new LP as much as you did. With the praise you give it here, may have to give it a second chance.

  6. Hey Chris thanks for the read. I thought "Human" was a good track, that was given too much criticism. I'm with you on Battle Born, check out my review I just posted, but I really like the single "Runaways". Let me know if you have any suggestions on some new music.
