Jurassic Park is one of the first movies I remember seeing in a theater. It was 1993, I was nine, and Clinton was President.
I’ve had today’s scene singled out for a while now, thanks to a video The A.V. Club featured a while back. I didn’t decide to highlight it as this week’s scene, however, until Linds at French Toast Sunday posted a very thorough FX Spotlight on Jurassic Park.
When I saw this scene - and the film as a whole - I felt exactly like Drs. Grant (Sam Neil) and Sattler (Laura Dern). I may not have displayed "The Spielberg Face" as they do, but I like to think this scene helped spark my love of film and escapism.
They're supposedly re-releasing Jurassic Park in 3D soon, and I think I’m okay with that. The sequels weren't that good - it’s been 20 years since I was wowed by dinosaurs. Speaking of, here's today's scene:
P.S. In case you didn't click on that A.V. Club link, here's the video:
Beautiful, right?
good call with this one. although i was only 3 when this came out, it was a movie i was obsessed with growing and i still love it today.
ReplyDeleteGregory - I was definitely obsessed and still am. This movie is kind of a shared love between my sister and I. Her text tone on my phone is the T-Rex roar.

Those dinos never fail to impress. I actually quite liked both the sequels too. I hope they get round to doing a JP4!
ReplyDeletePete - I wasn't fair to the sequels. The second one was good but had a lot to live up to. The third one was decent but I don't revisit it often.
DeleteI'm game for a JP4 - as long as they keep the guns away from the dinos!
